Ivy- Taimur’s vote race on Sunday dawn

Two heavyweight candidates are vying for the mayoral post in Narayanganj City Corporation, popularly known as Dandy of the East. Four times elected Narayanganj Municipal Mayor Chunka’s daughter Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy is fighting as the Awami League nominated ‘boat’ symbol. His only rival is independent candidate BNP leader Advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker. He is on the race with the ‘elephant’ symbol.

On the other hand, Advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker is claiming to be a candidate of 'Combination of All'. Many are of the opinion that the Osman family had support till the meeting of the Awami League High Command. However, since the support of Shamim Osman's boat was revealed, Osman's shadow has moved away.
Shortly after the nomination, Taimur was removed from the post of member of the BNP chairperson's advisory council and convener of the Narayanganj district committee. Even then, Ivy, the only rival of the ruling party, alleged that a number of leaders and activists, including Metropolitan BNP member secretary ATM Kamal, were directly involved in the campaign.
Meanwhile, the allegations of the ‘elephant’ symbol candidate Timur are just the opposite. He said 17 leaders and activists who had joined the election campaign on his behalf had been arrested. Besides, police raided the houses of 37 people. He also announced a sit-in in front of the Superintendent of Police's office if the arrest-harassment did not stop.

According to sources, there are rumors that local Jamaat-e-Islami, Hefazat-e-Islam and other religious groups have support for Timur.

Ivy said he (Taimur) would be harmed if there was violence in the vote, 'My voters will not be able to come. His (Ivy) opponents want such violence. He also expressed fears that someone might come to the vote bank areas to create animosity.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said that there is no doubt about the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election.
The CEC said people would be able to exercise their voting right in a free, fair and peaceful environment. The Election Commission has completed all the preparations for holding a fair vote.
NCC election is being held today on January 16, 2022. In 27 general wards and 9 reserved wards, more than one candidate have been contesting with different symbols. There are a total of 5 lakh 17 thousand 357 voters at 187 polling stations. Of these, 2 lakh 59 thousand 834 are male voters while 2 lakh 57 thousand 519 are female voters. Besides, there are 4 third gender voters. The voting will be held in Narayanganj in EVM.
