Use of ‘Spray Canon’ to prevent air pollution in Dhaka
Dhaka North City Corporation is spraying water through two ultra modern technology enriched 'Spray Cannons' to reduce air pollution in the capital. The water is being spread far and wide by these spray cannons. In this way the dust and sand flying with the wind is coming down with the water. As a result, the dust intensity of the surrounding area is decreasing.
Such a picture was seen on Saturday (February 19) around Banani-Uttara in the capital.
It is learned that in February 2021, Dhaka North City Corporation imported two latest technology fitted 'Spray Canon' cars from Germany. Each vehicle can hold 15,000 liters of water and can be sprayed continuously for 5 hours. There is also a spring layer system for wetting the roads. There is also a system to run all the systems together.
Dividing the entire North City Corporation into two areas, Canon-1 started spraying from Banani Navy Gate. Airport, Uttara became the house building and came back to the Banani graveyard area and thus completed the work.
On the other hand, Canon-2 started spraying work from Mirpur Mazar Road signal. Later in the Ganobhaban area, Manik Mia Avenue, Vijayanagar Smarani, Jahangir Gate, Prime Minister's Office, Farmgate, Kawranbazar came to Gabtali and completed the work of that day.
Ariful Islam is in charge of operating Canon-1. He told Barta24.com that he has been in charge of operating Canon-1 from the beginning. Water spray canon can be used for 4 hours. Water spray to prevent air pollution, there is a kind of spray device in front and back to clean the road. There is also a fire extinguisher flag at the top. Fire service work can also be done. Each car holds 15,000 liters of water. When the water runs out, water can be taken from any reservoir.
Tasrif Surya travels regularly on Banani-Uttara Road. He told Barta24.com that Spray Canon is spraying water every day and it is a very good initiative. However, only a few roads are being sprayed with water and other areas need to be sprinkled with water.
Professor Ahmad Kamruzzaman Majumder, director of the Air Pollution Study Center (CAPS) and an environmentalist, told Barta24.com, "I have seen in the newspapers for the last few days that spraying is being done to reduce pollution. It is definitely a good initiative." I heard they spray even on weekends. I came from Mirpur Beribandh yesterday and saw it splashing water. Since the spray canon is mostly sprayed upwards, it is also good for trees and Road Island. But 2 spray cars are not enough for such a big city. At least 20-25 spray cannons are required.
Dhaka North City Corporation CEO Md. Selim Reza told Barta24.com that the two spray cannons are being used for air pollution and cleaning. However, 2 sprays are not enough for North City. We are planning to buy some more spray cannons.
