Ziaur Rahman was closely involved in the August 15 mayhem: Prime Minister
Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina commented that Ziaur Rahman, the founder of BNP, was intimately involved with the incident of August 15, 1975.
He said, August 15 is the saddest incident in independent Bangladesh. That day Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his entire family were killed by killer’s bullets. In history, this kind of heinous incident never happened on the soil of Bengal. It also beats that Karbala event.
She said this in the president's speech at the commemoration meeting organized by Awami League on the 48th anniversary of Bangabandhu's martyrdom at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center on Wednesday (16 August) afternoon.
Sheikh Hasina said, the murderers changed the name of Bangladesh with the killing of Bangabandhu. They declared it as an Islamic republic state. Bangladesh Betar changed its name to Radio Bangladesh. Instead of Jai Bangla slogan, Zindabad came up with the slogan. History was distorted. All the dreams of development of people of Bangladesh stopped. Murderer Mushtaq declared himself president, made Zia army chief. Ziaur Rahman was closely involved in this murder. As Mir Zafar could not stay more than three months similarly, Mushtaq could not stay. Zia seized power. Wearing uniform Zia also tried to rise to power and later established himself as a politician. The Army broke the rules and held a presidential election. Vote rigging and vote theft started from there. Then the party called BNP did rigging consecutively.
Awami League president said, Khaleda Zia cannot prove that August 15 is her birthday in any way. It is unfortunate to hear about human rights from those who have made the day of killing a day of celebration.
Awami League Advisory Council member Amir Hossain Amu, Presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Salim, Joint General Secretary Dr. Dipu Moni, Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossain, Executive Member Advocate Tarana Halim, Dhaka Metropolitan South Branch General Secretary Humayun Kabir, North General Secretary SM Mannan Kochi spoke.
Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap and Deputy Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdul Awal Shamim moderated the meeting.
