Villagers urge to save banyan tree carrying tradition 300 years
In Nandail Upazila of Mymensingh, the villagers have formed a human chain to save a banyan tree, which has a tradition of almost 300 years. They want the intervention of the administration to save the tree.
On Wednesday (August 16) at noon, the Sachetan Nagarik Committee of Gangail Union of the upazila submitted a written request to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Abul Mansoor to save the tree. After submission of written application, the villagers formed a human chain by standing under the banyan tree at Fishery intersection on the Gangail-Paikura road of Gangail Union.
According to local sources, about 300 years old banyan tree is standing at a place called Fishery intersection next to Gangail-Paikura road of Gangail Union of the upazila. The rains of the last few days caused the earth to move from under the tree and the tree is about to collapse. In this situation, the villagers think that the tree may collapse at any time. To save the banyan tree, the villagers made a written request to Upazila Nirbahi Officer.
In this hour-long human chain, the speakers demanded to protect the 300-year-old banyan tree. They also demanded that they take administrative measures very quickly.
The human chain was attended by Khandokar Sufi Abdullah Sharif Mohammad, Md. Mosharraf Hossain Sujan, Jewel Mia and hundreds of local people.
The owner of the pond, Chanchal Mia, said, "My land has also become a pond due to the presence of ponds on all sides." If you help me, I will help to protect the old trees.
