116 sacks of food friendly program rice seized in Mymensingh
3 thousand 480 kg (116 sacks) of rice under government food friendly program has been seized in Ishwarganj, Mymensingh.
On Friday (August 18) around 10 o'clock in the night, rice was seized from a godown and shop in Upazila's Uchakhila market by Upazila deputy-food inspector Md. Anwar Hossain.
Affirming the truth of the incident Anwar Hossain said, on the basis of secret information, we have come to know that a godown in Uchakhila market has a large quantity of food-friendly program rice in stock. On receiving such news, raids were conducted at night and 105 sacks of rice weighing 30 kg were seized from Manik Mia’s godown in Uchakhila market. Meanwhile, 8 sacks of rice were seized from Abdus Sattar's shop in the same market. Meanwhile, a man was going in a rickshaw after buying three sacks of rice from the food friendly program. On the news of the raid, the man left 3 sacks of rice on the road. Later that rice was also seized.
He also said that 116 sacks of seized rice are being taken to government food warehouses. The unscrupulous traders have already fled after receiving the news that the raid will take place. Due to which their arrest was not possible.
Ishwarganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hafiza Jasmine said that after learning about the matter, instructions were given to recover the rice. Legal action will be taken against those involved in this incident.
