Working for people's welfare since coming to government: Prime Minister
Leader of the House Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that our development trend has reached the grassroots level. This is possible because the members of parliament perform their duties with utmost sincerity. Since the formation of the government, we have worked for the welfare of the people of the country.
She said, today we have lost (party parliamentarians) and there will be an appeal to those who are newly elected, our only goal is to deliver the benefits of independence with the ideals and goals with which Bangladesh became independent. Newly elected should work towards that goal.
She said these things during the discussion on the condolence motion in the Jatiyo Sangsad on the death of two MPs of the government party on Sunday (September 3). Earlier, when a condolence motion was raised in the parliament for the death of these two MPs of the government party, it was unanimously accepted.
Referring to the development of the government, he said that we have been able to elevate Bangladesh to the status of a developing country. Bangladesh needs to improve. I want everyone to be dedicated and serve the people of their respective areas. Serving people is the greatest achievement. There is nothing greater than this. This is what is needed most for political leaders. Those who died contributed to the cause we have come this far.
Remembering late Abdul Quddus, Member of Parliament of Natore-4 (Baraigram-Gurdaspur) Constituency and President of District Awami League, Prime Minister said that Abdul Quddus was a student of Rajshahi University. He used to do Chhatra League. He was very brave. Natore was a place of terror. He was elected there repeatedly although he was forced to lose. He was very popular with the people.
Remembering late Rebecca Momin, Member of Parliament of Netrokona-4 Constituency (Mohanganj-Khaliajuri-Madan), the Prime Minister said, I knew Rebecca Momin from my student days. She was my pen friend when she was a student of Rajshahi University. She always wrote letters. I would also answer. In the letter, she used to talk about the ideals of Bangabandhu. After I became VP in Eden college, she encouraged me by letter. She was an active worker of Chhatra League.
Sheikh Hasina remembered the veteran freedom fighter Matiur Rahman, the elite leader of the Greater Mymensingh region, who recently passed away, and said that Matiur Rahman used to be elected from Mymensingh. But when we formed alliance he gave up his seat to Begum Roshan Ershad. As great a leader as he was, the moment I told him to vacate this seat, he did not object even for a moment. He immediately left the seat. Otherwise, he would still be the MP of that seat.
Referring to the loss of many leaders and activists of the Awami League at different times, Sheikh Hasina said, the struggle they (the late leaders) endured, the imprisonment and torture, the way they stood by the Father of the Nation and suffered various tortures after the assassination of the Father of the Nation, I wish their souls peace. I do
She said, our politics is for the welfare of the people. Rebecca Momin or Abdul Quddus they have always worked for the welfare of the people. Rebecca Momin has donated land to our Asrayan project. Such was their mentality. We lost them It is really painful to have to discuss our condolence over and over again.
