151 Bangladeshis return home from Libya
151 Bangladeshi nationals detained in the Ganfouda Detention Center in Benghazi, Libya have been brought back to the country. The Bangladesh Embassy in Libya rescued them with the help of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and arranged to send them home.
The plane carrying them landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday (September 5) at 5 am. This information has been confirmed by airport sources.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Libya Major General Abul Hasan Mohammad Khairul Bashar bid farewell to the Bangladeshi migrants at Benina Airport in Benghazi. At the time, he said, with the help of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), arrangements have been made to rescue Bangladeshi migrants in danger from detention centers in different parts of Libya and send them home. At the Libyan airport, he informed them about the various steps taken by the Bangladesh government for the welfare of expatriates. In particular, he informed them about the Bangladesh government's protection of expatriates' rights, providing incentives on sending remittances through legal channels and bringing expatriates under universal pension.
He also highlighted various dangerous aspects of illegal immigration and advised them to avoid such a path in future. He also requested these Bangladeshis to participate in the awareness campaign to prevent illegal immigration back home.
Earlier on July 31, 131 Bangladeshis were sent home from Libya's capital Tripoli with the help of the embassy.
