Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen is going on a visit to India. He will visit New Delhi this month at the invitation of Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra.

According to a diplomatic source in Dhaka, Binoy Kwatra has invited Masood bin Momen to sit in the Bangladesh-India joint consultative meeting (FOC). Generally, FOC deals with matters of mutual interest. However, the foreign secretary's visit to New Delhi before the upcoming national elections of Bangladesh can be considered very important in the election issue.

Another diplomatic source said that Bangladesh-India FOC was held in Dhaka in February this year. Dhaka is going to do FOC with the country in a gap of eight months. Before this, there was no precedent of FOC with any country other than India in such a short period of time in the case of Bangladesh. However, two countries can do FOC anytime if they feel it necessary.

Earlier, in the meeting of defense and foreign ministers of India and the United States in New Delhi, the Bangladesh issue was discussed in view of the upcoming elections. In that meeting, Washington was informed by New Delhi that how the elections will be held is an internal matter of Bangladesh. However, Washington has not yet openly commented on New Delhi's position on Bangladesh.
