After 131 years, a mural of the founder Girish Chandra Roy installed at MC College

A mural of Raja Girishchandra Roy, the founder of Murarichand (MC) College, Sylhet's oldest educational institution, has been installed. This is the first formal initiative to preserve the founder's memory after 131 years of establishment of the college.

Murarichand College principal Professor Abul Anam Md. Riaz inaugurated the mural on the college campus on Saturday (November 18) afternoon.

After the inauguration, he said that the foundation stone of the mural was inaugurated on July 22. After nearly four months of construction, the mural was officially inaugurated today. This is the first formal initiative to preserve the founder's memory after 131 years of establishment of the college. Through the construction of the mural, it will play an important role in conveying the founder's contribution and name from generation to generation without limiting it only on paper.

Prabir Roy, Associate Professor of Mathematics Department of Murrichand College and Member of Mural Construction Coordination Committee gave the welcome speech, Abdul Ahad, Coordinator of Mural Construction Committee and former student of the college gave the closing speech.

Among others, Murrichand College Ex-Principal Nitai Chandra Chand, Ex-Principal Panna Rani Roy, Philosophy Professor Prof. Abul Kalam Azad, Prof. Parimal Kumar Dey, Prof. Tapan Kanti Dhar, Ex-students Eminent Journalist Al Azad, Saheed Ahmad, AKM Fazlur Rahman, Badrul Islam Shoaib, Muktadir Ahmad Mukta, Akkash Khan and current student Ashraf Islam spoke. A large number of former and current students of different batches were present along with the teaching staff of Murarichand College.

The program started with the National Anthem followed by a tribute to the mural of Raja Girishchandra Roy, the founder of the college and a 1 minute silence in memory of late Mishfaq Ahmad Mishu who was one of the initiators of the mural. #

Shamima Chowdhury, a former student of the college and former principal of Sylhet Government Women's College, recited poetry in the evening cultural program after the inauguration. The program concludes with group dance and song.
