'Increasing commodity prices, necessary measures to prevent warehousing'
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman said, `In order to prevent the increase in the price of goods and warehousing in Chattogram city and upazilas, the all out operation is necessary.'
He said this at the district law and order committee meeting on Sunday (December 10).
Deputy Commissioner Fakhruzzaman said, 'In order to prevent the sudden increase in the price of onion and potato, along with the abnormal increase in the price of onion and potato, an operation was conducted in Khatunganj and Pahartali market, the wholesale market of these products in Chattogram under the leadership of the Executive Magistrate.'
All upazila Nirbahi Officers in the upazilas were instructed to take immediate action in this regard. In all the upazila UNO immediately conducted raids in the respective markets and took legal action. Based on the opinion of all the representatives of the people and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce present in the meeting, a decision was taken to take effective measures by calling a meeting with all the importers on an urgent basis.
He also said that a decision was taken to publish a 'public notice' to provide updated information on individual warehouses or godowns maintained by the businessmen to prevent the sudden rise in the prices of daily necessities including onions and potatoes by issuing public notices. The learned Additional District Magistrate and Upazila Nirbahi Officers have been instructed to take action in this regard.
After the public notice, if any information is found about the storage of these products in any other place other than the specific godown or warehouse, a warning is issued that action will be taken against those concerned including the district.
Apart from this, the Deputy Commissioner also requested the general consumers not to create crisis by buying more than 1-2 kg of these products.
In this regard, the commanding officer of 8-BGB said that he informed the meeting that whether the traders are storing in any other place outside of the list of warehouses received from the business community, they will monitor it through their intelligence surveillance.
The concerned 8 -BGB members, UNO, Sitakund and related police force, intelligence members expressed their thanks through the commanding officer for the recovery of yaba making equipment from Sitakund upazila by BGB.
Superintendent of Police Chattogram said that by calling a meeting with the businessmen by the Chamber of Commerce, through a press briefing, they can make arrangements to identify those who are causing artificial crisis by increasing the price of goods.
He informed the meeting that there are instructions from the concerned ministry regarding the recovery of illegal weapons, and those illegal weapons recovery activities will continue on the occasion of the upcoming elections.
Keeping the elections ahead, armed terrorists fear to create chaos in favor of the candidates, in view of this, the concerned parties are requested to be alert and cautious, and the police, RAB and other law enforcement agencies are expected to take legal action against illegal motorcycles.
