Bangladesh Consulate to be shifted

The intensity of fighting between Myanmar security forces and Arakan Army is increasing day by day. In such a situation, Bangladesh Consulate located in Rakhine state capital Sittwe will be shifted to Yangon soon.

A senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that verbal instructions have already been given. Process is in progress.

Other foreign missions based in Sittwe are also being moved to Yangon for security reasons. Indian consulates as well as foreign staff of the United Nations and other international organizations have also been shifted, diplomatic sources said.

Meanwhile, residents of Bandarban's Naikangchhari and Cox's Bazar's Ukhia and Teknaf upazilas are in constant fear due to the conflict across the border.

Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that after the talks between the two countries, the process of sending back the Myanmar security forces who took refuge in Bangladesh is underway.
