Foreign Minister requests India to send onion-sugar before Ramadan

Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud requested Delhi to send 50 thousand tons of onions and 1 lakh tons of sugar from India before Ramadan.

The minister gave this information in a press conference at the Ministry of External Affairs on Monday (February 12)at the end of his Delhi visit.

Referring to the meeting with India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in Delhi on February 9, the Foreign Minister said, "We are dependent on India for many consumer goods. In particular, certain products like onions, sugar, pulses and spices. I have discussed these issues with the Commerce Minister of India.

Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, I told him (India's commerce minister) that a special quota should be set for these consumer goods. So that at least we can import from them at the right price and as per our requirement. At least I can take this benefit from them.

The foreign minister also said that discussions were held with India regarding the use of non-lethal weapons to stop border killings. He said that security cooperation was also discussed with India's security adviser Ajit Doval and the country's foreign minister S. Jaisankar. He discussed in detail about stopping border killings.

He said that the process of sending back all the members of the Myanmar security forces who have infiltrated into Bangladesh is continuing.

The minister said that the internal crisis in Myanmar has created regional instability. Delhi's cooperation has been sought to deal with the crisis and repatriate the Rohingyas. He also said that Bangladesh will discuss the issue of Teesta water distribution with the country after the next elections in India.
