Police must earn people's confidence: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the people's trust and confidence in the police should be restored and they should work with love for people.
She said these things at the inauguration ceremony of 'Police Week-2024' held at Rajarbagh Police Lines Ground on Tuesday (February 27). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the opening of this six-day police week.
The Prime Minister said that the Awami League government will work to make the Bangladesh Police a more efficient force. She also said that the government has taken multifaceted steps to implement more progress of the police in forming 'Sonar Bangla'. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the police to be vocal against militancy, drugs and terrorism.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that since 2009, various separate branches including anti-terrorism, crime tribunal, highway police have been formed and more necessary training of the police has been arranged. Adequate police force has also been deployed for security in the Rohingya camp. I will quickly create an inquiry board in every department so that people get justice.
Stating that more advanced training has been arranged for the police department, she said, "We have arranged modern training for the policemen." Apart from this, 2 helicopters will be provided to improve the facility of air travel to deliver police services quickly to remote areas.
The theme of this year's Police Week is 'Smart Police, Smart Country, Peace and Progress Bangladesh'. Notable programs after the Prime Minister's address to senior police officers include a conference of Chief Justice, Home Minister and Minister-in-Charge of various Ministries, Cabinet Secretary and IGP, IG's Badge, Shield Parade, arms and drug recovery award distribution among senior police officers.
Action plan for the next year will be taken by reviewing the activities of the past one year in various work sessions of Police Week. Police Week will end on March 3.
