190 Tolas of gold stolen from two gold shops in Farmgate
A robbery took place in two jewelry shops on the fourth floor of Sejan Point Market, Farmgate, Sher-e- Bangla Nagar police station in the capital.
The incident took place on Tuesday (March 6) late night. Around 190 pieces of gold jewelry were stolen from two shops, police said. However, the police have not arrested anyone so far.
According to the police, two thieves broke the grill of the rear balcony of Sejan Point Market at around 3:30 pm on Tuesday and entered. Later, they climbed the stairs and broke the collapsible lock of Sarani and LV Jewelers shop on the fourth floor and entered. Then they fled through the way they had come with the gold ornaments.
Abdul Ahad, OC of Sher-e-bangla Nagar police station, said that about 40 gold ornaments were stolen from LV Jewelers and about 150 gold ornaments were stolen from Sarani Jewellers. There is a closed circuit camera (CC) in front of the market but no camera at the back. The footage shows the two walking on the market's balcony. They were wearing helmets.
He said that two days ago, in a meeting with the traders, they were asked to install cameras behind the Sejan Point market. But they have not installed any CC camera behind the market. It would have been easier to identify thieves if there were CCTV cameras behind the market.
