"March 7 speech not only prepared for war but also brought victory"
The independence of Bangladesh is the result of long struggle of Bangabandhu. Bangabandhu's March 7 speech not only prepared the nation for independence but also brought victory.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this at Osmani Smriti Auditorium in the capital on the occasion of historic March 7 at around 11:30 am on Thursday (March 7).
Stating that history can never be erased, Sheikh Hasina said that a group wanted to erase the name of 'Bangabandhu' from this country by killing Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family on August 15, 1975. They also banned the March 7 speech and 'Joy Bangla' slogans. They also tried to erase Sheikh Mujib's name from history. But history can never be erased. The proof of that is the recognition by UNESCO of the United Nations on 30 October 2017 of the 7 March speech as a 'World Documentary Heritage'. Not only that, UNESCO thinks that the Father of the Nation declared the independence of Bangladesh through this speech.
The Prime Minister said, based on the judgment of our High Court, the Cabinet Division has issued a notification declaring 'Joy Bangla' as the national slogan.
The Prime Minister said that this speech not only inspired the Bengalis but also brought them victory. She said, in his March 7 speech, Bangabandhu gave us an immortal message called 'Freedom' and showed the path of liberation through struggle. He inscribed the inevitable victory of the heroic Bengali in the last two words of his speech - the slogan 'Joy Bangla'.
