Train accident in Cumilla due to bent railway line in summer

Nine coaches of Vijay Express derailed on its way from Chattogram to Jamalpur at Nangalkot in Cumilla. The coaches are believed to have derailed due to bending of the line in the extreme heat.

The accident took place on the way from Chattogram to Jamalpur at Nangalkot in Cumilla on Sunday (March 17) afternoon.

Railway Cumilla Senior Assistant Engineer Liaquat Ali Majumder said that due to the extreme heat, the railway line was bent in Tejer Bazar area of Nangalkot area of Cumilla on Dhaka-Chattogram railway. Due to which we initially think that 9 coaches derailed.

According to the Railway Police, when the 'Bijoy Express' train from Chattogram to Jamalpur reached Tejer Bazar, 18 coaches separated from the train engine and 9 coaches fell off the line. At least 5 people were seriously injured. Train movement on Dhaka-Chattagram route has been stopped since the incident. If the rescue train arrives from Akhaura or Chattogram and the coaches are removed, the train movement will be normal.
