Dhaka New Market area is bustling with sales ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. As the time of Eid is approaching, people's shopping in the market is increasing massively.

Since Friday (March 22) is a weekend holiday, the image of the capital's New Market area is somewhat normal from morning to noon, but after the afternoon, Dhaka New Market and its surrounding areas have become a sea of people.

The area is buzzing with the presence of buyers and the shouts of sellers. On the surface, Dhaka New Market, Gausia, Noorjahan, Badrudduja, Noor Mansion, Chandni Chowk, Eastern Mallika Complex, Green Swaranika, Subastu, Chandrima Super Market, Dhanmondi Hawkers Market, Elephant Road and its surrounding areas can be seen. Such a picture can be seen as Friday is a weekend day ahead of Eid.

Ignoring the rain and the fatigue of fasting, the shops are bustling with the presence of buyers and sellers of different ages from morning to night to do Eid shopping. The New Market and its surrounding areas are seen in such a picture.

The sellers said that there are twenty more days left for Eid, but the sale has started in full swing. They have seen a few customers since the beginning of fasting. They are hopeful that the sales will be more near Eid.

Anjuman Ara and his family came to buy sarees at Dhanmondi Hawkers Market. She said to Barta24.com, I think the hawkers market is the kingdom of sarees. All types of sarees are available in this market. I bought sarees for my daughter and son's wife. I see more. As always, the prices are higher during Eid, what's new!

Jannatul Mawa, a third class student of Manipur School, who came to the market with her parents, said, "I have bought my favorite 'naira cut' dress and shoes. Now I have to buy chuli and hair clips to match the dress. I bought it for my sisters. I will go to my grandfather's house on Eid. I bought it."

Zahid Fabrics of Chandni Chalk Market said, "Though there is no strong demand for any specific clothes this Eid, the demand for Pakistani brands Aganur, Sada Bahar, Tawakkul, Bin Saeed, Organza Muslin and Indian dresses is high."

Besides, many buyers are preferring cotton clothes over the flamboyant heavy clothes in view of hot weather. As always, women's and children's clothing styles and demand are high in the Eid market. However, boys' shirts, t-shirts, pants and Bahari Punjabi pajamas are being sold in the third floor of Newmarket, second and third floors of Noorjahan Market and Science Lab and its surrounding areas. Jewellery, cosmetics and pavement shops have also witnessed overcrowding.

The same is the case in New Market and nearby tailor shops. The garment makers are suffering from the pressure of work. There is no time to talk in busy work. Different designs of clothes should be sewn in time before Eid. Starting from Tk. 700, they are keeping Tk. 1500 to Tk. 2000 to make one dress. Sewing wages are being fixed for each garment.

On the third floor of the New Market, the monochromatic fabrics come alive in various variations with the handprint designs of Block Batik artisans. They are spending busy time in front of Eid in creating customized designs according to the customers' preferences.

Due to the pressure of extra people, the New Market and its surrounding areas are creating severe traffic jams. Traffic has come to a standstill from Mirpur Road to Neelkhet. The traffic police are trying tirelessly to supervise. Pedestrian buyers have to go around a lot of roads as there is no foot over bridge which was used to move from New Market to Gausia Market. Many have been seen jumping over the road divider or cutting a bit of iron rod to pass through it dangerously.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police has been deployed for security in the market. A police control room booth has been set up next to Gausia Market. Police are there to assist by setting up information and service centers.

Chattogram University (CU) administration has decided to conduct a dope test for the students who qualified in the admission test. If the dope test report is positive, the administration will cancel the nomination.

On Sunday (05 May) in a meeting of the Deans Committee chaired by CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Abu Taher this decision of dope test was taken.

According to the decision, the students will have to pass the dope test before final admission to CU. The entire process will be completed at Chattogram Medical College Hospital(CMC).

CU Vice Chancellor Professor Md. Abu Taher confirmed the matter. The VC told the media that drugs are destroying our society, family and culture. So we have decided to conduct a dope test for students who have passed the admission exam this year. First, those who have successfully cleared the admission test, will be subjected to a dope test. We will then gradually roll out our other students, faculty and staff to ensure accountability and transparency.

The Vice-Chancellor also said that we have spoken to CMC Hospital to start this process. It is not yet clear who will bear this cost. But we are trying to fix a limit—Tk. 200 to Tk. 500.

Professor Siraj Ud Daula, Dean of the Faculty of Sociology told the media, 'We have taken this initiative in the interest of the country. All male and female students are required to submit their blood or urine sample and the results of the test will be submitted to the administration for final tabulation. If someone is positive, then he/she cannot get admission.'

It should be noted that a dope test or drug test is to check whether a specific drug is present in the body of an animal from a sample of any part of its body. Those who regularly take drugs or alcohol, some amount of these addictive substances remain in their bodies. And that was caught through the dope test. A medical test is done to check whether a person is addicted to drugs or not.

In this case, a sample of the person's urine or blood, and sometimes both, is tested. Drug samples can be obtained from oral saliva in the last 1 week, blood samples in the last 2 months, hair samples in the last 12 months or 1 year.
