Death toll rises to 6 in the Feni train–truck collision
Death toll has increased to 6 after a train hit a sand-carrying truck in Pubali area of Muhuriganj, Fazilpur, Feni. Earlier in the morning, 2 deaths were reported.
On Friday (April 05) morning, a Chattogram-bound mail train collided with a sand-carrying truck at Pubali Balumhal area near the Muhuriganj Bridge on the Muhuri River.
According to police sources, the police recovered the bodies of two people from the spot, later another person died while admitted to Chattogram Medical. Also, the police confirmed that 3 more people sitting in front of the train died. The bodies were taken away by family members without a post-mortem.
The deceased are truck driver son of Abul Howladar of Kawaraka village of Ujirpur upazila of Barisal. Mizan (32), Abul Khair (38) son of Amir Hossain of Laksam Manoharpur area of Cumilla district, his son Ashiq, Sajjad son of Yasin of Shaktala village of Chiora union in Chauddagram upazila of the same district, Rifat son of Ruhul Amin and Deen Mohammad son of Amerunnessa.
According to family sources, the deceased Abul Khair, his son Ashiq and another person were going to Chattogram sitting in front of the train engine. It is learnt that they were going to Chattogram for Eid shopping.
The families of the victims are in mourning. Before Eid, the family members broke down in tears after losing a family member.
Abul Khair's brother-in-law Rubel said, Ashiq and his father Abul Khair were going to Chattogram sitting in the engine of the train. At that time the accident happened. Among them, Abul Khair died on the spot. And when Ashiq was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital with serious injuries, he died under treatment.
Omar Farooq Hriday, the cousin of the deceased Deen Mohammad, said that in the morning they left for Chattogram with 11 friends from the village for Eid shopping. Among them, three of the dead sat in front of the train. On the way, the train collided with a truck when it reached Muhuriganj area. They died on the spot. Their bodies were brought home from the spot and buried without a post-mortem.
Chairman of Chiora Union Parishad Abu Taher said that they were going to Cattogram for Eid shopping with their friends. Three friends died in this accident on the way. In the afternoon, they were buried in the same grave after the funeral in the field of Shaktala Aziziya Madrasa.
According to police and local sources, a Chattogram-bound mail train collided with a sand truck at Balumhal area near Muhuri Bridge in Muhuriganj area around 8:30 am. At that time, the truck fell at least 100 meters in front of the train.
Feni Superintendent of Police Zakir Hasan said that a Chattogram-bound freight train collided with a sand-carrying truck in Muhuriganj area. They died on the spot. However, the police went to the spot and recovered the bodies of two people. Another person died after being taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. I have now received news of the death of three more people in this incident. The bodies of the three could be taken home by the relatives before the police reached the spot. We are working on this.
He said, in coordination with the railway police, legal action will be taken subject to investigation on whether there was any negligence.
