There is a shortage of passengers even though there are enough vehicles on the road
Dhaka-Aricha and Nabinagar-Chandra highways crossing Savar are not yet under pressure from domestic passengers on Eid. There is a shortage of passengers even though there are enough vehicles on the road.
The pressure of commuters will increase on the roads of Savar if the garment factories in the industrial area start declaring holidays on Monday (April 8).
On Sunday (April 7) night, the Dhaka-Aricha highway, Baipail-Abdullahpur road and Nabinagar-Chandra highway can be seen. However, adequate police security is seen at important points on the highway.
On the surface, it can be seen that in Savar bus stand, Nabinagar, Bypail, Sreepur area, almost all the stands have twice to three times the waiting time for North Bengal and South Bengal bound buses as compared to normal days.
Transport workers said that they could not admit passengers for a long time. Meanwhile, so far no complaint of excess fare has been received anywhere in Savar and Ashulia.
Minhaj Uddin, the driver of Sonali Paribahan bound for North Bengal from Bypile, said, "Despite waiting for almost half an hour, not even half of the seats were filled." Since the industrial area is so far away, no factories have been closed. That is why we are not getting many passengers on the road. However, we hope that the pressure of passengers will increase in the next one or two days. We don't have to wait too long.'
Sabuj Mia, a garment worker, has come to send her family home at the bipile stand during the traffic jam. He told Barta24.com, since our factory will be closed from tomorrow, it will be very difficult to go together. That's why I am sending the family home earlier so that they don't have to get into traffic later.
Since Savar-Ashulia is an industrial area, there are no factories closed yet, so the passenger pressure is low. If the establishments including garment factories are closed, the pressure of passengers may increase, according to transport officials.
Additional DIG of Highway Police Barkat Ullah Khan told Barta 24.com, "Traffic movement on the road is normal. There is no traffic jam anywhere. Our police control room is working. But technology always improves the quality of our services, increases efficiency. This time we are also using body cameras, CCTV cameras especially drones. Where there is traffic congestion, traffic congestion is resolved. This time too, we will have drones in all the places where there may be traffic jams. There will be cameras and we will also try to give a guide through the drone.
He also said, 'Avoid food or drink offered by strangers.'
