Prime Minister calls on Brazil to buy RMG directly
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon Brazil to import Readymade Garments (RMG)products from Bangladesh directly.
She said that RMG products from Bangladesh are being exported to Brazil on a limited scale through third parties. It will be more cost effective for Brazil if the country directly imports RMG products from Bangladesh.
A delegation led by Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister at her office on Monday (April 8) morning. At this time, Sheikh Hasina made this call. After the meeting, Prime Minister's speech writer M Nazrul Islam briefed the journalists.
Emphasizing the need to ensure trade balance between Bangladesh and Brazil, Sheikh Hasina said, 'The trade balance between the two countries is leaning towards Brazil. To ensure this balance, Brazil could import more products from Bangladesh, including jute and jute products and leather goods.
The head of government said that Bangladesh mainly imports sugar, soybean oil and cotton from Brazil. There is huge scope for increasing bilateral trade between the two countries.
She also emphasized the need to enhance the existing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Brazil.
