Today fanatics are taking society backwards. Land Minister Shri Narayan Chandra Chanda said that there is nothing to be jealous of that everyone will have their own religion.

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the discussion meeting titled 'Non-Secular Bangladesh: Challenges and Actions' organized on the occasion of the 36th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Hindu, Buddhist and Christian Oikkya Parishad at Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of National Press Club on Friday (May 17).

The discussion meeting was organized by Bangladesh Hindu, Buddhist and Christian Oikya Council. In the discussion meeting, the Land Minister said that the influence of fundamentalism which started after ‘75 has not been brought under control yet. Today they want to make Pahela Baishakh controversial. Our new generation wants to embrace this Pohela Boishakh; But they don't want it.

Speakers in the discussion meeting said that the amount of communalism that was there in 1988, the current situation is even worse. At present, the falsehood being told about Rabindranath Tagore in Dhaka University is against secularism. We never want the religious frenzy that is created during elections. Whatever we say about politics; But in reality it is different. Social power has become very weak here. Society is now in the hands of fundamentalists. Secularism is no more. As the government has zero tolerance against militancy, we would like to take a measure against this secularism. We want minority protection law in Bangladesh. We never want the energy we have to be passive

The speakers also said that the number of minorities in Bangladesh is very low now. We are almost at par with Pakistan. The way we are treated is not judged by the state. Secularism is no more. Efforts are being made to make Islam the state religion in a communal country.

Under the chairmanship of President of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikkya Parishad Professor Dr. Nimchandra Bhowmic, it was addressed among others by the general secretary of the organization, Rana Das Gupta, dramatist Mr. Ramendu Majumder, former state minister Dr. Biren Sikder, economist Dev Priya Bhattacharya, Prof. Dr. Mezbah Kamal.
