The protesting students, demanding the reinstatement of the circular issued by the government in 2018 by canceling the quota system in government jobs, marched the various lanes of the campus around 3:00 pm and took a stand at Shahbagh via Doyal Chatwar and High Court Road. This has caused traffic congestion in the surrounding area. As a result, the passengers have suffered greatly.

At that time, the students said, "Injustice will be swept away in a flood of blood, if I have given blood, I will give more blood", "The students have woken up, the student society has woken up", "Quota na medha medha medha", "Sara Banglaye Khabar de quota Prathar". Thousands of Dhaka University (DU) students blocked Shahbagh with a protest march as part of the ongoing movement demanding the abolition of quota system in government jobs and reinstatement of the circular issued by the government in 2018.

On Saturday (July 6) around 4:30 pm, students blocked Shahbagh intersection. Due to the location of the students, the road leading to Science Lab, Mirpur Road, Motijheel was closed. This caused intense commotion in the Shahbag Mor area. As the traffic was stopped, many of the passengers walked towards their destination.

Earlier, around 3 pm, students organized a procession in front of the Central Library of DU from various halls and departments of the university under the banner of 'anti-discrimination student movement'. The protest march started from the Central Library of Dhaka University and passed through Muhsin Hall, VC Chatwar, TSC, Jagannath Hall, Bakshibazar, Palashi to Azimpur and again from Neelkhet to Raju Bhaskar and ended at Shahbagh.

At this time, the students chanted, 'The principle of the constitution/liberation war, equality of opportunity', 'Give news to the whole of Bengal, bury the quota system', 'The tool of eighteen, roar again', 'Wake up, wake up, student society has woken up', There is a fire', 'quota system, cancel want cancel want' etc.

Earlier, Nahid Islam, one of the organizers of the protesting students on July 4, announced a 3-day program and said that public relations will be online and offline next Friday. A procession will be held from universities and colleges of the country at 3 pm on Saturday. Class-examination boycott and student strike will be observed in all colleges and universities next Sunday. Sunday's field program will be announced after today's protest march.

It is known that before the holy Eid-ul-Azha on June 5, the High Court declared invalid the circular for the cancellation of freedom fighter quota in the case of direct recruitment (grades 9 to 13) in government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions and various corporations. From that day, a large number of students started protesting in Dhaka University. In this situation, the state applied to the Appellate Division seeking suspension of the court's decision. A full bench of the Appellate Division fixed July 4 for hearing the petition.

Nahid Islam, a student of Sociology Department of Dhaka University, one of the organizers of the recent quota reform movement, said that their demand is mainly to redistribute or reform the quota by setting up a commission with a maximum quota of 10 percent in all grades subject to the upholding of the 2018 circular; Stopping the possibility of using quota facility multiple times in the job examination and appointing the vacant posts on the basis of merit if qualified candidates are not found in the quota and taking effective measures to ensure a corruption-free, impartial and merit-based bureaucracy.

Till 2018, there was a total of 56 percent quota in government jobs in Bangladesh. That year, protests started in various educational institutions of the country, including Dhaka University demanding quota reform. At that time, the protesting students complained of attack by law enforcement agencies including Chhatra League.

On October 4 of that year, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a circular on the cancellation of quota. Later in 2021, the children of freedom fighters filed a writ challenging the part of the freedom fighter quota cancellation of that circular.

On the night of Hijri New Year, the Holy Kaaba will be wrapped with new gilaf. On the night of 1 Muharram, 1446 Hijri, the official ceremony of changing the Gilaf will be held in the courtyard of Masjid Haram in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. 159 expert craftsmen will participate in this traditional work. Before this, the Gilaft will be brought to the Kaaba square in a specially made truck.

This information was revealed in a report of Saudi media Arab News on Saturday (July 6).

Since the beginning of the month of Muharram in the Hijri New Year is determined by the sighting of the moon. The Muharram moon was not sighted anywhere in Saudi Arabia on Friday (July 5). As a result, the counting of the month of Muharram will start from Sunday (July 7). In this case, the work of changing the Kiswa or Gilaf of the Holy Kaaba will be completed on Saturday (June 6) night.

Arab News reports that the Gilaf of the Holy Mosque is changed every year. Old sheath is removed and new sheath is worn. It basically consists of four pieces of cloth and a door section. The new pieces of cloth are raised upwards and the old cloth pieces are gradually lowered down.

Before this, on June 18, the Saudi king officially handed over the new Gilaf to the recently deceased Chief custodian of the Kaaba, Sheikh Abdul Malik Al-Shaybi. Shaykh Abdul Wahab bin Zainul Abedin Al-Shaybi is currently serving as the chief guard.

Originally from the first era of Islam, it was a custom to change the Gilaf of the Kaaba on the 9th day of the month of Zilhaj, Arafat. According to the year 2022, the Saudi government changed the Kaaba Gilaf change schedule from 1444 Hijri. Since then, the Gilaf is changed on the first night of Muharram to commemorate the Hijri New Year.

670 kg of black natural silk is used to make the 658 square meter gilafty. The whole Gilaf is stitched with 47 pieces of cloth. These works are done on the world's largest sewing machine with a length of 16 meters. Many of the crafts are also done by hand. Five different pieces of cloth are sewn together and fixed at the base with copper rings.

120 kg of 21 carat gold and 100 kg of silver thread are used to write the verses of the Holy Qur'an and the praises of Allah on that cloth. It takes six to eight months to complete all the work of Ghilaf. In total, 25 million Saudi Riyals or six and a half million US dollars are spent on making this Gilaf weighing 1300 kg. This Gilaf is considered to be the most expensive cloth in the world.

The Ghilafti of the Kaaba is made in a specialized company called 'The King Abdulaziz Complex for Manufacturing the Kaaba's Kiswa' located in Umm al-Zawd, Makkah. In 1928, under the orders of King Abdul Aziz Al Saud, the founder of Saudi Arabia, a company for manufacturing Gilaf was established. Then from 2017, under the direction of King Salman, it was named 'The King Abdul Aziz Complex for Manufacturing the Kaaba's Kiswa.'
