Fuel oil crisis in Rangpur
In the current situation of the country centered on the quota movement, there is a shortage of fuel oil in Rangpur due to storage and transportation complications. The owner of the filling station and the vehicle drivers are at risk.
It has been seen on the ground that 39,000 liters of fuel oil is supplied to each depot in Rangpur under the state-owned fuel oil marketer Meghna, Padma and Jamuna Petroleum in 9 railway wagons which is less than the demand. Even though the last oil wagon arrived on July 29, it has not been possible to supply due to risk. As a result, 85 filling stations of Rangpur are suffering from fuel shortage. The depots are not able to say when this problem will end. But they are hopeful that this suffering will end very soon.
According to the relevant sources, the monthly demand of fuel diesel is 1 crore 25 lakh, petrol 25 lakh 50 thousand and octane 4 lakh 40 thousand liters in four districts. However, 27 lakh liters of diesel, 10 lakh 60 thousand liters of kerosene, 6 lakh liters of petrol and 6 lakh 80 thousand liters of octane can be stored in the depots of Padma, Meghna, Jamuna petroleum in Rangpur. Apart from Rangpur, Parbatipur in Dinajpur is also supplied. However, due to the double cost of transportation in Parbatipur, the demand is more in Rangpur depots.
The owners of the filling station said that due to the current overall situation, there is a crisis due to lack of oil supply. Since we are dependent on depots, we are facing financial loss as well as suffering due to non-availability of fuel oil. We are incurring losses as we cannot sell the fuel.
Shahjalal, Manager of Fuel Jamuna Depot, said that the fuel oil was brought to Rangpur depot by railway wagons from Chattogram. Fuel oil is supposed to be brought by wagon three to four times every month but it is brought once or twice. Because of this, the fuel oil crisis continues to meet the demand for fuel. However, this crisis is mainly based on the current situation. However, I am expressing that it will be possible to supply oil within two days.
