The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has received information about suspicious transactions worth Tk. 41.29 crore against Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) driver Syed Abed Ali and his family. The transactions came to light through deposits of Tk. 20.88 crore and withdrawals of Tk. 20.41 crore in his 12 bank accounts.

A case was filed against him on Sunday (January 5) on charges of acquiring assets beyond known income worth Tk. 3.73 crore.

ACC Director General Akhter Hossain confirmed the case.

He said that separate cases have also been filed against Abed Ali's wife Shahrin Akhter Shilpi and son Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam.

The decision to train 50 judicial officers of subordinate courts at the National Judicial Academy and State Judicial Academy in Bhopal, India has been cancelled.

This information was revealed in a notification signed by Dr. Abul Hasanat, Deputy Secretary (Training) of the Law and Justice Department of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, on Sunday (January 5).

It is said that as per the instructions of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, a notification was issued allowing 50 judicial officers to participate in the training to be held at the National Judicial Academy and State Judicial Academy in Bhopal, India from February 10 to 20. However, this notification was cancelled as per the instructions of the Supreme Court.

'We will leave a trail so that others can move forward on that path. We have come for one to one and a half years to carry out reforms. We will not stay for long.'

Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed said these things at a discussion event on the occasion of the release of a report titled 'Increasing Saudi-Bangladesh Economic Engagement: Trends, Key Challenges and Long-Term Prospects' at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (January 5).

The Economic Adviser said, we want to leave some examples of good work. We have not come here to stay for long. We want to create a beautiful path along which the next generation can take Bangladesh forward.

Referring to Bangladesh's multidimensional relations with Saudi Arabia, he said, Saudi Arabia is very important for us in terms of trade and economic considerations. Many countries are asking us to do free trade. We are getting ready to do free trade. We have many challenges in terms of trade. The government alone cannot face this challenge. The private sector needs to help in facing this challenge.

Salehuddin Ahmed said that during the previous government, South Korean business giant Samsung Company was kicked out of the airport. Saudi company Aramco was kicked out of the airport.

Criticizing the stock market, the finance adviser said that many companies are investing in the stock market. However, I see that even though the factories of some companies are closed, their share prices are increasing. Action must be taken in this regard.

Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin, Foreign Secretary (East) Md. Nazrul Islam and Policy Exchange Chairman Masrur Riaz spoke at the event. 

Chief Adviser to the Interim Government Dr. Muhammad Yunus said that the army is working alongside the people to maintain the country's honor and glory.

He said this at the winter maneuver exercise of the Infantry Brigade Group of the Bangladesh Army in Rajbari on Sunday (January 5). 

Earlier, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus left Dhaka by helicopter at 11:54 am and landed at the helipad at Char Khapura in the Military Training Area of Kalukhali at 12:36 pm.

He was welcomed at the training ground by Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman, Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hassan Mahmud Khan, and GOC, 55 Infantry Division and Area Commander, Jashore Area Major General J M Imdadul Islam.
