Among the complaints raised by the patients were non-availability of round-the-clock water supply in the hospital and most of the tests being done outside, lack of cleanliness, problems with CT scan machines and MRI machines, poor supply of medicines, various irregularities by nurses, poor quality of food provided to patients, crowded patient seats and irregularities in management. No duty doctor at night in the pediatric ward, lack of nebulizer machine etc. Besides, some patients also complained that they have to pay tips in case of anti- rabies vaccination.
Under the chairmanship of Ajay Dash and member engineer of Sanak-TIB Chattogram, Advocate Akhtar Kabir Chowdhury, president of SANAk-TIB, gave an idea about the purpose of the program and the ongoing anti-corruption social movement of SANAK-TIB in the program organized by Delwar Hossain Majumdar. On behalf of the hospital authorities, the Resident Medical Officer of the hospital answered the various questions of the beneficiaries Dr. KM Ashiq Kamal. Also present among others at this time were Dr. Abul Bashar, Dr. Rajdip Biswas, health educator Faiz Ahmed, Statistician Shaukat Al-Amin Chowdhury, Service Supervisor Reshmi Das, Senior Staff Nurse Manwara Begum and others.
Members of Sanak Chattogram and Joint Convener of Health Affairs Sub-Committee Professor Sanjay Biswas, Roshan Ara Chowdhury and SM Farhad Ullah were present as guests in the event.
Regarding the complaints raised by the patients in the public hearing, the doctors of the hospital said that the patients who come to the hospital for service are our guests, we feel it is our duty to provide them with better services. We are committed to providing good service to patients despite many limitations in the hospital. Doctors here are very good with patients.
The officials of the hospital also said, "Even though there are 250 beds on paper, the hospital is constantly struggling to provide services with the manpower of 150 beds. About two hundred patients are regularly admitted in this hospital. As a result, despite the sincerity, it is not always possible to provide services according to the needs of the patients. Also, despite repeated requests to WASA, PWD and other related government institutions in solving various infrastructural problems, adequate and quick assistance is not available.
The officials also complained that it is not always possible for the small number of cleaning staff to carry out proper cleaning operations in such a big hospital due to the littering of patients and lack of adequate cleaning staff. They said that the honor of the doctors is the smiling face of the patient when he returns home after the treatment. We want to send all the patients who come here for treatment home with a smile. Patients should also be aware of this. We have to be as careful about the cleanliness of the hospital as we are in our own homes, we should not throw garbage everywhere.
In the President's speech, General Hospital supervisor (Acting) Dr. Ajay Dash said that everyone including the doctors of this hospital are always sincere in providing good services to the patients. In spite of our many limitations, we continue to provide services to the best of our ability. Do not give money, tips to anyone inside the hospital, anywhere in the internal department. We are doing our best to resolve the issues raised by the patients.
About hundred service recipients including a large number of women were present in the event.
