CEC and other Commissioners resigned
The Election Commission (EC) led by Chief Election Commissioner(CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal have resigned.
They resigned on Thursday (September 5).
CEC said today is the farewell of the Election Commission. The 2014 elections were not inclusive. The 2024 election was not party-based, the competition in 299 seats was individual-based.
Incidentally, former senior secretary Kazi Habibul Awal was appointed as CEC on February 26, 2022. Besides, retired Brigadier General Ahsan Habib Khan, former District and Sessions Judge Begum Rashida Sultana, former Senior Secretary Md. Alamgir and former senior secretary Anisur Rahman.
A day after their appointment, they took oath before the then Chief Justice Hasan Faiz Siddiqui. The 12th Jatiya Sangsad(JS) election was held under that commission. That election was boycotted by the BNP and their like-minded political parties. Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League formed the government for the fourth consecutive time after the polls.
