There is no speech sitting in India, Sheikh Hasina should remain silent until she is extradited to Bangladesh, said Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the interim government.

He made this comment in an interview given to the Indian media PTI at the official residence Jamuna. The interview was published on the PTI News website on Thursday (September 5).

"If India wants to keep her until Bangladesh requests her extradition, she should remain silent to avoid discomfort in both countries," Muhammad Yunus said.

He also termed the political comments that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is making in India as 'inconvenient'.

In the interview, he mentioned the good relations between Bangladesh and India and said that New Delhi must go beyond the idea where all other political parties except the Awami League portrayed as Islamists and Bangladesh would turn into Afghanistan without Sheikh Hasina.

Dr. Yunus said, "She must be brought back, otherwise the people of Bangladesh will not be at peace. The kind of atrocities she has committed should be dealt with through justice here."

PTI quoted Dr. Yunus as saying, "No one in India is comfortable with her position. We want to bring her back. She has been making statements from India every now and then that are unfriendly towards us. If she had kept quiet, we would have forgotten." But sitting in India, no one likes what she is saying.

On August 13, Sheikh Hasina demanded 'justice' and said that those involved in recent 'terrorist activities', killings and looting must be identified and punished subject to investigation.

When asked whether Bangladesh had conveyed its position to India, Dr. Yunus said it had been verbally and quite firmly informed that she should remain silent. What she is saying from there is 'unfriendly behavior' for us. Not that she got there the usual way. Shee fled because of popular uprising and popular anger.

When asked about ways to improve India-Bangla relations, Dr. Yunus said that both the countries need to work together which is currently at a low level.
