‘Shahidi March’ in Dhaka stalled due to traffic jams
The capital city of Dhaka has come to a standstill in traffic jams as the 'Shahidi March' of the anti-discrimination student movement was held in memory of the martyrs on the one-month anniversary of the fall of the autocratic Sheikh Hasina government.
On Thursday (September 05) afternoon, heavy traffic jams were created on every road where the procession of students crossed from Dhaka University to observe the Shahidi March.
Students and common people participated in this Shahidi March of students, including Dhaka University, various universities, colleges, technical, madrasas and schools of Dhaka. In this procession of thousands of people, the road on one side of the capital came to a standstill.
City dwellers who have finished office have suffered the most in traffic jams. The city people have mixed reactions to such sufferings.
The Petrobangla staff bus was stuck at Karwan Bazar signal for 25 minutes. According to the bus driver, this suffering is nothing compared to the victory of the student uprising to end the misrule.
Mobaswer Hossain, a private employee standing on the same road, said the same. He told Barta24.com that our children were shot dead during the agitation for small demands. This government of the movement has resigned. We have to accept a little suffering in memory of the dead.
However, CNG driver Ali Hossain has expressed his displeasure with such suffering on the road. He said, those who come to power block the road and hold marches and meetings. Because of them, crossing a 20-minute road takes hours. As a result, it is difficult for us to raise our deposits.
Meanwhile, the student crowd's 'Shahidi March' started from Dhaka University's Raju Sculpture, passed through Neelkhet-ScienceLab-Kala Bagan-Sangsad Bhavan-Farmgate-Karwan Bazar-Shahbagh-Raju Sculpture and ended with a rally at Shaheed Minar.
