Swapan Kumar Debnath, Proprietor, Southern Group. A few years ago, he built a beautiful bungalow in Dakshin Kashdah village of Shibaloy Upazila of Manikganj. A local youth named Jahangir was given the responsibility of looking after the house. But the owner of the house alleged that the keeper Jahangir set fire and looted the bungalow and caused a loss of about crores of taka.

After Sheikh Hasina fled the country on August 5, Jahangir along with about half a hundred local youth set fire to the bungalow. The attackers also ransacked.

Swapan Kumar Debnath filed a case mentioning the names of 12 people including Jahangir in this incident. In the case, 30/40 people are named as unknown accused. Almost all the accused except Jahangir are free on bail.

The bungalow built at the cost of several crores of takas has now turned into a pile of rubble. The expensive furniture in different parts of the house is still burnt to ashes. The residents of the village were shocked by the attack, vandalism and looting of that house. Many are also criticizing Jahangir for playing the role of protector and eater. Some have also demanded exemplary punishment for this incident.

Manikganj district BNP member and local Shibaloy Union Parishad chairman Alal Hossain's maternal uncle Jahangir. Although he was associated with BNP politics, Jahangir is not known about any of his posts. Besides, the owner of the house and the locals could not say the reason for the attack, vandalism and looting of the bungalow.

When asked about these issues, Swapan Kumar Debnath, the owner of the bungalow, said that Jahangir was given the responsibility of taking care of the house since the bunglow was built it on the banks of the Ichamati river. He was also given honorarium at the end of the month. After former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina escaped, it was Jahangir who attacked, vandalized and looted the house with his group which is very painful.

When asked about politics, Swapan Kumar said, he is a successful businessman. He has no political identity. He is not involved with politics. He used to help the common people of Kashdah area a lot. He has no enmity with anyone in the village. Village people also like him very much. Still, he was shocked by such a case. He expressed hope that he will get justice in this incident.

Joint general secretary of Manikganj District BNP Satyen Kant Pandit Bhajan said that after the agitation of the students, some excited people have done various misdeeds by defaming the name of BNP. However, none of the district BNP leaders and workers are associated with it. He commented that the district BNP is holding regular meetings to prevent these misdeeds.

When contacted about the complaint, Officer-in-Charge (OC-Investigation) of Shibaloy Police Station Ranjit Saha said that the accused in the case of vandalism, arson and attack on the bungalow have taken bail from the court. But Jahangir is still in prison. The operation is ongoing to bring the rest of the accused involved in the incident under the law.

Manikganj Superintendent of Police Md. Bashir Ahmed said that a total of 11 cases have been registered so far in cases of vandalism, arson and attacks. Out of which 10 police stations and one learned court have been filed. These cases are being seriously investigated. Of course the justice seekers will get justice in these cases
