The court granted 7-day remand to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's principal secretary Abul Kalam Azad and businessman Humayun Kabir, treasurer of Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League, in the Jubo Dal leader Shamim murder case.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman's court granted the remand after the hearing on Sunday (October 6).

Earlier, Sub-Inspector Tanmoy Kumar Biswas of Paltan Model Police Station, investigating officer of the case, applied for their 10-day remand.

Lawyers for the accused applied for bail seeking cancellation of remand. The state party opposes it. After the hearing, the court ordered remand.

Abul Kalam Azad was arrested from Dhanmondi in the capital on Saturday (October 5) evening.

On 28th October 2023, BNP has called a grand rally as per the central program. Awami League called a counter rally on the same day to suppress this mass meeting. With the help of the police, an attack was carried out on the BNP's grand meeting in Dhaka to kill and eliminate the BNP leaders and activists. Many BNP leaders and workers were injured. Jubo Dal leader Shamim dies. A case was filed in Paltan Police Station of the capital on September 24 in this incident. 

Awami League has no chance to come back. Awami League is a fascist organization and they have no place in democratic politics, said Shamsuzzaman Dudu, vice chairman of nationalist party BNP.

He said these things in the Chief Guest's speech at the National Press Club on Sunday (October 6) when a civic meeting was held to demand the rehabilitation of the families of the martyrs and treatment of the injured in the July murder trial.

Dudu said, Awami League was not only involved in the July killings, but they have carried out countless killings over the past 15 years. Bangladesh has a tragic history in the beginning of three and a half years. There, Awami League has not shown any political stability, so there is no reason to think that they are a politically democratic party.

Dudu also said to the Awami League, those who are rejected by the people have no chance to return. Even though Sheikh Hasina handed over arms indiscriminately to everyone from the police administration to protect themselves, they could not protect Hasina. Friends of fascism are still there.

Regarding the elections, BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said that the sooner the elections are held, the better for the country, economy and politics. But reforms need to be brought first and then everything else.

He said, on behalf of the party, Tariq Rahman has clearly said that the fight for democracy will continue until a party comes to power democratically through elections. However, our party and people think that the Prime Minister of tomorrow is Tariq Rahman. Whatever one said, tomorrow is the day of BNP. Next day is the day of the sheaf of paddy.

BNP Chairperson's adviser Habibur Rahman Habib and other leaders of the organization were also present in the discussion meeting under the chairmanship of Moktar Akhand, President of Jatiyatabadi Democratic Parishad.

Former president and renowned physician AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury was laid to rest in Munshiganj Srinagar.

On Sunday (October 6) he was buried in the family graveyard after the fourth Janaza at Majidpur Daihata after Johar prayer.

Earlier, his third Janaza was held at Srinagar Upazila Stadium around 10 am in the presence of thousands of people. It was attended by local upazila administration officials, leaders of various political parties and local dignitaries.

He died last Friday at 3:15 pm while undergoing treatment at Uttara Mohila Medical College Hospital established by him. He was 94 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters and numerous relatives and well-wishers.

Renowned physician and veteran politician Badruddoza Chowdhury was born on November 1, 1932 in maternal grand father’s house (famous 'Munsef Bari') in Cumilla city.

His father Advocate Kofil Uddin Chowdhury was Vice-President of Krishak Praja Party, General Secretary of United Front and a member of the then East Pakistan Provincial Cabinet.

Badruddoza Chowdhury joined BNP in 1978 from being a doctor and became a politician at the call of late President Ziaur Rahman. He became the founder general secretary of the party. He was the Deputy Prime Minister of Ziaur Rahman's government. He was elected as the first Member of Parliament from Srinagar in Munshiganj in 1979 and served as a Cabinet Minister.

He was elected Member of Parliament for the second time in 1991 and became first Minister of Education and then Deputy Leader of Parliament. In 1996, he served as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Parliament. He was finally re-elected as Member of Parliament in 2001 and was the Foreign Minister of the BNP government from October to November of the same year.

Professor AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury was elected the twelfth President of Bangladesh on 14th November 2001. He resigned from the post of President on June 21, 2002 due to political reasons.

May 8, 2004 B. Chowdhury floated a political party called Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh. He was the president of the party till his death.

A Jubo League leader has been arrested by the Thana Police for his alleged involvement in the attack and shooting of students during the anti-discrimination movement from Hazaribagh in the capital.

The name of the arrested person is Shakil Hossain (30). He is the Vice President of Ward No. 34 Jubo League. Police arrested him from Hazaribagh last night along with weapons.

A revolver, a pistol, one round of bullets and spent revolver shells, two chapatis, two large pistols and a ram da were recovered from his house.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman gave this information at a press conference organized at DMP's media center on Minto Road in the capital on Sunday afternoon.

He said, during the anti-discrimination movement in July-August, the armed terrorists of Awami League and its organization attacked the protesting students in the area of Mina Bazar number 27 of Dhanmondi in the capital. Many students including Shahid Ali (27) were shot and seriously injured in the attack.

His own brother Sharif filed a case of attempted murder in Dhanmondi police station on September 3 in connection with Shahid's death.

Also, during the anti-discrimination movement on July 19, 2024, Awami League and its organization armed terrorists attacked the protesting students on the opposite side of Dhanmondi-15 Abahani ground. Hasnain Ahmed was killed. In this incident, a murder case was registered at Dhanmondi police station.

The accused in the two cases is Ward No. 34 Vice President of Jubo League. Shakil Hossain was arrested from Hazaribagh area by the Thana Police on the basis of intelligence information. At that time, revolver, pistol and local made weapons were recovered from his house.

During the preliminary interrogation, Shakil told the police that he used illegal firearms on student marches during the anti-discrimination student movement and shot innocent students in different areas including Dhanmondi.

He also said that a case under Arms Act has been filed against Shakil Hossain in Hazaribagh police station in connection with the recovery of arms. The arrested person has been sent to the court with a remand application to find out the information about those involved in the attack on the anti-discrimination movement.
