Photojournalist's camera and phone mugged after being beaten up in Mohammadpur
The Daily Ittefaq photojournalist Naimur Rahman was robbed and beaten up in Mohammadpur in the capital. The muggers took his camera, phone and money.
He was robbed at around 9:30 pm on Wednesday (November 13) before the intersection of three roads in Mohammadpur.
Victim Naimur Rahman said that after finishing his office work, he was going to his cousin's house in Basila, Mohammadpur at around 9:30 pm. On his way from Mohammadpur bus stand to three roads, 5-7 people suddenly blocked his path and took him into an alley. Then they beat him up and took away a Nikon D-850 model camera, a Samsung A13 model mobile phone and his wallet. In addition to money, the wallet contained a bank ATM card and important documents.
After this incident, the victim Naimur Rahman went to Mohammadpur police station. Following his (Naimur Rahman) verbal complaint, the officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station Iftekhar Hasan went to the spot with a team. Two people were detained for questioning there. But they were later released as they were not involved in the incident.
Naimur Rahman said that one of the detainees gave the possible identity of the kidnappers.
Meanwhile, the police are trying to collect CCTV camera footage of a residential building at the scene. However, it was not possible to collect it immediately as there was no caretaker of the building. The victim photojournalist said that the landlord of the building asked them to leave tomorrow, Thursday (November 14) morning.
However, Naimur Rahman has not yet filed any general diary (GD) or written complaint in this incident.
When contacted, the officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur police station said, after learning about the incident, I myself went to the spot and rushed to catch the kidnappers. We are looking into the matter. The victim journalist will file a written complaint tomorrow. Besides, we are trying to collect CCTV footage of the scene. We hope to get the video footage tomorrow morning.
Asked about the arrest and release of the two people, he said, "We caught two people, including a young boy. But the victim journalist is identifying them, they were not there. So they were released. If we get the video footage, we hope to find the muggers."
