Sheikh Hasina turned Bangladesh into a prison: Dr. Shafiqur Rahman
During Sheikh Hasina's government, the entire country was turned into a prison. Freedom of speech was taken away, said Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. He said these things at the Nathullabad Central Bus Terminal in the city on the occasion of the Amir-e-Jamaat's visit to Barishal on Sunday evening, December 1.
The Amir-e-Jamaat also said that from August 28, 2006 to August 5, 2024, many people have been disappeared and killed. Many people were brutally tortured just for standing up for the truth. They did not hesitate to put even the elderly and wise scholars in jail. They also put rods and chains on their feet. They put ropes around their waists. I believe that Allah was angry with these innocent scholars. They killed the bird of the Quran, Allama Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, bit by bit. Many leaders of our Sepoy Salar have been killed one by one.
Many journalists asked me, who are your 24 martyrs in this movement? I said, those who have been martyred cannot belong to any party, they are all our property. They were walking down the streets with their chests full of anger, saying, "Shoot me, I am feeling a lot of pain in my chest." All these martyrs are our property. What did Abu Sayeed do? Was he standing with a gun in his hand? No, he just said, "Give me my rights." But these tyrants shot him three times and martyred him.
We are indebted to the families of all these martyrs. We want to assure each family that we are with you. We are with you to the best of our ability. We will fight to the best of our ability to achieve their right.
The situation of a judge lying on a banana leaf and wanting to leave the country makes me ashamed, but the way they have destroyed the judicial system makes me even more ashamed.
They wanted to stay in power until 2041. There is a feeling that they own the country and we are all in trouble. But we want a Bangladesh where there will be no enforced disappearances, murders, or kidnappings. Everyone will live with dignity and respect. We want a youth society where drugs will not touch.
Our 3 top local leaders were in charge of the ministry at the same time. We can proudly say that their hands were free from corruption. The people of that party are the ones who make up Jamaat-e-Islami today.
Allah the Messenger has said that in a state where Muslims are in the majority, the minorities are a trust to them. If anyone does not protect this trust, I will stand against him on the Day of Final Judgment.
