Two killed in clash between two Awami League factions in Narsingdi

Two people, including a woman, were killed in a clash between two Awami League factions in Narsingdi's Raipura over dominance. At least 10 others were injured in the incident.

The incident took place in the Methikanda area of the upazila on Saturday (December 7) morning.

The deceased are former members Manik Mia and Kalpana Begum.

Police said that there was a conflict between Jubo League leader Abid Hasan Rubel, a one-time supporter of former Posts and Telecommunications Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju, and another supporter of former Posts and Telecommunications Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju, a Baset member supporter, over dominance in the area. This conflict intensified around the last Upazila Parishad elections. As a result, there were multiple shootings and clashes between the two factions. Several people were killed and injured in those clashes.

In the last upazila elections, Jubo League leader Abid Hasan Rubel and his supporters beat and killed rival candidate Sumon Mia. Recently, they tried to control the area after getting bail in the case. The supporters of the opposing Baset member group prevented them. As a result, tension prevailed between the two sides.

On Saturday morning, the two sides clashed with ammunition and local weapons. When the opposing side attacked, former members Manik Mia and Kalpana Begum, supporters of Abid Hasan Rubel, were shot. Upon receiving the information, members of Raipura police station and army went to the spot. Then the situation came under control.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in the area after the double murder. Law enforcement members are in the area to control the situation.

Narsingdi Police Superintendent Abdul Hannan said that the two sides clashed over dominance. Two people were killed in this. Police, RAB and army members are in the area at the moment.
