Apurba Jahangir terms Education Adviser's statement on elections personal

Wahiduddin Mahmud, the interim government's planning and education adviser, had said that a politically elected government will be seen next year. However, Apurba Jahangir, the deputy press secretary to the chief adviser, described the education adviser's statement as personal.

He made this comment at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Sunday (December 8).

Apurba Jahangir said that education adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud gave a personal opinion on the elections. He said that elections may be held next year. However, this is his personal opinion. There has been no announcement regarding the elections from the chief adviser. An announcement regarding the elections will be made from the chief adviser.

When asked by reporters when the announcement might come, he said, "You will be the first to know when the announcement comes."

Earlier, on Saturday (December 7), Education and Planning Adviser Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud, responding to questions from journalists at a seminar at a hotel in Gulshan, Dhaka, said that a politically elected government will be seen next year. However, he also said that this is my personal opinion, I don't know what will actually happen.

After the Awami League government fell on August 5 in a student-public uprising, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country and went to India. Then, on August 8, an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus took over the responsibility of running the country. They have taken initiatives for reforms in various fields including the country's economy, elections, and police system.
