Arrest warrants issued against 5 people in Ashulia corpse burning case

The International Crimes Tribunal has issued arrest warrants against 5 people, including a former MP, in a case filed on charges of burning 6 bodies in front of Ashulia police station in Savar, near Dhaka.

A three-judge bench led by International Crimes Tribunal Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder issued the order on Tuesday (December 24).

The tribunal issued the warrants against 5 people, including a former MP, in a case filed on charges of burning 6 bodies in front of Ashulia police station in Savar during the July-August genocide.

Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam conducted the hearing for the prosecution. Prosecutors Gazi MH Tamim, BM Sultan Mahmud, SM Mainul Karim, and Shaikh Mahdi were present.

Journalists' Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam said that after investigating the incident of burning bodies in police vans, it was found that the criminals burned the bodies in police vehicles to escape. There is a video of MP Saiful Islam shooting himself, so an arrest warrant has been issued against them and they have been asked to appear before the tribunal. Except for former Dhaka 19 MP Saiful, the remaining 4 are police officers. The tribunal has ordered a progress report on this issue on January 25.

Earlier, two separate complaints were filed against Sheikh Hasina and 70 others on charges of killing 6 people by burning them in Ashulia, Savar, during the student movement on September 11.

Advocate Hujjatul Islam Islam Khan filed two separate complaints on behalf of the victim's family in the investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal. It has been asked to take legal action against the accused after investigating them according to Section B of the International Crimes Tribunal Act, 1973. Charges of genocide and crimes against humanity have been brought under sections 3(2) and 4(1)/4(2) of the International Criminal Tribunal Act, 1973.
