From now on, free books for students under the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) will no longer be printed abroad, Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud has said.
He spoke as the chief guest at the inauguration of the online version of the textbook at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital on Wednesday (January 1).
The Education Adviser said that there will be efforts to open up the book printing business or monopoly business and make it more orderly.
Stating that arrangements will be made for high-quality printing, paper and binding, he said that from now on, books will no longer be printed abroad. Printing is being done in the country.
Wahiduddin said that there is a plan to conduct a clean-up drive in all ministries, including the Education Ministry, and that many of those who had been involved in the printing industry for several years and became corrupt have been transferred. The ACC will be asked to investigate the previous officials and employees in the Education Ministry who were corrupt.
Stating that there were obstacles in many places in the distribution of books, the education advisor said, "Books have been printed at the previous market price. Those who have created obstacles in our work will be listed and given to those who will be in the government next year." Stating that the books have been purified or refined so that party politics is neutral, he said, earlier only general mathematics and general science were taught in the ninth and tenth grades. Now higher mathematics and higher science will also be taught.
