Election Commission committed to holding fair and impartial elections: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said, ‘There is no scope for working in the traditional manner. The Election Commission is committed to holding fair, transparent and impartial elections, including restoring the voting rights of 18 crore people.’
He gave this instruction at the inauguration ceremony of the training of voter registration data collectors and supervisors at the Election Training Institute in Agargaon in the capital on Sunday (January 5).
He also ordered those involved in the election to work with professionalism. The CEC also promised not to commit deliberate mistakes while working.
At that time, Election Commissioner (EC) Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said, ‘No one should participate in the work of including voters in the voter list with the motive of earning money. We have to work equally in the case of dead voters, fake voters and new voters.'
Claiming that the commission will be able to overcome the people's aversion to voting this time, he said, 'The lack of trust that existed among the people has reduced. People want to vote this time. Measures will be taken so that no one can spoil the vote.'
Another Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarkar said, 'The commission will do everything it takes to restore the way the past elections were corrupted. Irregularities, negligence and opacity in voter registration will not be tolerated in any way.'
At the event, EC Tahmina Ahmed said, 'The commission's tools in conducting fair elections will be law and conscience. If any EC official does anything malicious, the commission will not take responsibility for that.'
Calling for transparency and responsibility to restore people's trust in voting, EC Abdur Rahman Masud said, 'The commission also believes that an accurate voter list is a prerequisite for fair elections. We must work with utmost caution and diligence in updating the voter list.
