July killings: 15 BSMMU doctors and nurses suspended
15 officers and employees of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) have been suspended.
They have been suspended on charges of involvement in the organized killings in the BSMMU cabin block area during the July uprising.
This information was given in an office order signed by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam on Sunday (January 5).
The temporarily suspended officers and employees are – Medical Officer of the University’s Cardiology Department Dr. Abu Torab Ali Mim, Medical Officer of the Dermatology and Venereal Diseases Department Dr. Riaz Siddiqui Pran, Painter of the Director (Hospital) Office Nitish Roy, Md. Saiful Islam, MLSS Kazi Mehedi Hasan, Assistant Dresser Shahidul Islam (Saidul) and Sweeper Sandeep.
Also on the list are Ujjal Molla, Office Assistant of the University's Respiratory Medicine Department, Sujan Bishwa Sharma, Driver of the Transport Branch, Fakrul Islam Johnny, MLSS of the Outpatient Department (OPD-1), Rubel Rana, Customer Care Attendant of the Laboratory Service Center.
The list of temporary dismissals also includes Senior Staff Nurse of the Super Specialized Hospital Shabnam Noorani, MLSS of the Ward Master's Office Shahadat, MLSS of the Cardiology Department Munna Ahmed and MLSS of the Ward Master's Office Anwar Hossain.
The office order states, "As per the decision of the 94th meeting of the University Syndicate, the doctors, senior staff nurses and employees working at the university involved in the organized killing in front of the cabin block of this university during the anti-discrimination student uprising have been temporarily suspended under Section 2 (g), (h), (i) and (n) of the Efficiency and Discipline Ordinance." It further states, "During the period of temporary suspension, the doctors, senior staff nurses and employees mentioned in Section 14 of the Efficiency and Discipline Ordinance will receive salaries and allowances as per the prevailing rules of the university. However, their employment will be regulated as per the rules." The office order also states that this order will come into effect from January 5, 2025.
