Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina spent a sleepless night to monitor Cyclone Bulbul that lashed Bangladesh coasts on Saturday midnight, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said.
Hasan Mahmud, also the Publicity Secretary of the ruling Awami League, made the disclosure while speaking at a discussion in the capital on Sunday (Nov 10), marking the Noor Hossain Day.
Taking a jab at BNP, he said, “They claimed that the government’s preparations to face the cyclone are not adequate. But the reality is that massive preparations have saved our lives and properties.”
The minister said, “I will like to tell them to see their own faces on mirror. During their rule, lakhs of people were killed and huge properties damaged in 1991 cyclone. Management flaws led to the damage of 35 fighter planes that time.”
“When human bodies were floating on water, when entire Chattogram was full of stink of dead bodies, Khaleda Zia changed saris seven times a day during [Pakistan prime minister] Nawaz Sharif’s visit,” he added.
Shaheed Noor Hossain Sangsad organised the discussion at Awami League’s Dhaka south unit office at Bangabandhu Avenue.
Dhaka city Awami League general secretary Shahe Alam Murad and Noor Hossain’s elder brother Mohammad Ali Hossain also spoke at the discussion presided over by Noor Hossain Sangsad president Taslim Ahmed.
