Fecal sludge plant of Faridpur Pourashava set up at Char Adampur
Faridpur Pourashava has set up a fecal sludge treatment (FSM) plant with the financial assistance of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation while the technical assistance was provided by Practical Action Bangladesh.
Society for the Urban Poor (SUP), a local NGO is now looking after the FSM set up at Char Adampur adjacent to Faridpur town.
In this connection an interaction meeting on the performance and functioning of the plat was held on Sunday (Jan.12) at the Compost Research & Training Center (CRTC) located at the plant site. SUP organized an Exposure visit of Journalists, educationists and Ngo people to CRTC on Sunday to have practical experience about the functioning of the different steps of the plant.
Belayet Hossain, Executive Director(ED) of SUP while showing the functioning of the plant explained how human fecal sludge collected in bulk from septic tanks of the town are step by step becomes compost fertilizer and fresh water where even fish cultivation is done.
The interaction meeting was chaired by ED of SUP while it was addressed among others by Educationist Prof. Md. Shahjahan, Faridpur Engineering college Associate Professor Abdus Sattar Mia, NGO FDA ED Azharul Islam and Practical Action representatives MD. Anisuzzaman. Speakers stressed on preservation of environment in our respective locality to keep it health friendly and livable.
