Fire in Eden's dressing room, questions over safety

A fire broke out in Kolkata's Eden Gardens. Eden's dressing room was gutted in a late night fire on Wednesday (August 9).

According to Ananda Bazar Online, the fire started at 11:50 PM and was brought under control at 12:30 PM by the efforts of two fire service units. After preliminary investigation, the fire service authorities said that the fire started from short-circuit.

Although there was no major damage, the equipment of the players kept in the dressing room was damaged in the fire, according to the fire service. Eden's electricity was also cut off.

Just two months left for the start of the World Cup. Before that, the ICC delegation came to visit Eden Gardens on Saturday. The team was also pleased to inspect Eden's work. The fire that followed raised questions about Eden's safety.

According to fire service sources, the repair work of Eden's dressing room was going on for the occasion of the Cricket World Cup. At around 11:50 on Wednesday night, the hall suddenly filled with smoke. At that time the workers present at the spot immediately informed the fire service. Immediately two units of fire service reached the spot. The fire was brought under control around 12:30 pm.

A fire service official said that the fire may have started due to short circuit. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Equipment used by the players in the dressing room was damaged. The fire spread because of the false ceiling.

2023 Cricket World Cup will be held in India. Just two months left for the start of the World Cup. Eden Gardens has taken charge of a total of five important matches in between. For that beautification and repair work was going on in Eden.
