Protests in Nepal after the United States did not grant a visa to Lamichan
On May 15, Nepal cricketer Sandeep Lamichan was acquitted of rape charges. After this judgment of the Supreme Court of Nepal, he started to dream again, to be able to play in the T20 World Cup for the country. But his and his supporters' hopes were dashed. The United States did not issue a visa to Lamichan.
The Nepal Cricket Board was very optimistic about Lamichan's ability to play even though he was not in Nepal's initial squad. Lamichan also applied for a visa. But the World Cup host USA did not give him a visa. As a result, Lamichan is not playing in this year's T20 World Cup.
A few days ago, Lamichan expressed his disappointment on social media for not getting a US visa. The country's cricket board spoke to the US embassy in Nepal on this issue, but that did not work either.
The Foreign Minister then spoke to the US Embassy to resolve Lamichan's visa issue. He assured me to solve the matter. In the end, that attempt of the Foreign minister also failed. The United States is adamant in its decision not to grant a visa to Lamichan.
Lamichan played one of the biggest roles in giving Nepalese cricket a new dimension. He dazzled with his leg spin. He brought honor to the country. But because of his previous criminal record, the US ultimately denied him a visa. The cricket lovers of Nepal are naturally not able to accept this. They protested in front of the US Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal, demanding a solution to Lamichan's visa problem. Now let's see if it works.
Nepal will start the World Cup mission with a match against the Netherlands on June 4. The remaining three opponents of Nepal in this group are Bangladesh, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
