Bangladesh could not cross the Protean hurdle
Bangladesh has not won any of the 8 T20Is against South Africa. A great opportunity came today in match number 9. Bangladesh could not take advantage of the opportunity despite being very close. The match was lost by 4 runs. The Protean circle could no longer be broken, and for the second round we have to look forward to the match between Nepal and the Netherlands.
After losing the toss Bangladesh had a good start by bowling. Tanzim Shakib sent back Riza Hendricks in the opening over. Then in the third over, he sent back Quinton de Kock as well. He also pocketed Tristan Stubbs before the end of the power play. In between, Taskin Ahmed picked up Aiden Markram. South Africa lost 4 wickets for 23 runs.
But since then the Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller show had begun. The pair put on 79 runs for the fifth wicket to take the team to three figures. Klaasen scored 46 off Taskin Ahmed, followed by Rishad Hossain's 29 off Miller. South Africa finally ended the innings scoring 113 runs.
In reply, Bangladesh lost Tanjid Tamim in the second over but managed to finish the power play smoothly. But it got into trouble after that. Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Nazmul Hossain Shanto all returned with wickets. Tawheed Hriday and Mahmudullah Riyad took the lead of the team in the fifth wicket. The team was showing victory in the pair of 44 runs. But at that very moment, Rabada returned to Tawheed who scored 37 runs. A total of 2 runs came from that over. The equation of 18 runs from 12 balls to 20 from 18 balls stands in front of Bangladesh. Bangladesh could not match that equation in the end. The match was lost by 4 runs.
