FIFA president visiting Dhaka
FIFA president Gianni Infantino is coming to Dhaka on a 16-hour visit. He is scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday early hours. It is his first Bangladesh visit after taking office in 2016.
In this short visit, he would call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Then, he would go Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) and meet its officials.
Ahead of the visit of boss of the governing body of world football, the BFF offices have got festive. He would be welcome there with a red carpet reception at BFF. He is set to visit BFF after the meeting with the prime minister. He would also meet the press at 2:20pm after the dinner arranged by BFF in honor of him.
BFF general secretary Abu Nayem said they would inform the FIFA president about the recent achievements of the Bangladesh football.
"We will also seek cooperation from FIFA for developing our football,” said the BFF official.
BFF president Kazi Md. Salahuddin said: “this visit by FIFA president is very important for us. He would himself witness what steps we have taken for the development of our football.
Previously, Sepp Blatter visited twice as FIFA president, first in 2006 and later in 2012. Fifa president João Havelange also visited Bangladesh in 1980.
The present FIFA president Gianni Infantino is on Asia Tour, which he began with Lebanon visit. Then he went to North Korea where he enjoyed a match between South Korean and North Korea.
He is coming to Bangladesh after visiting Mongolia. On Thursday even, he would leave for Laos after Dhaka visit. He is scheduled to China, Brunei and Philippines consecutively.
