Twenty five thousand digital labs to be set up in next three years

Dhaka: State Minister for Information and ICT Junaid Ahmed Palak informed that to expedite digital activities across the country 25 thousand Sheikh Russel digital labs will be set up in different educational institutions in next three years.

He said this on Tuesday(july23) at a hotel at ‘Bracathon Awards’ distribution function organized by Young Brac.

The State Minister said that earlier we had no digital labs in the educational institutions in the country but after the decoration of ‘digital Bangladesh’ by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina we have already set up 9 thousand Sheikh Russel digital labs in the educational institutions across the country. Besides, ICT subject has been made compulsory from class VI to 12th class.  

Regarding the availability of internet access at the door steps of the people the State Minister said that Internet has become a basic need of the people. Earlier people had five basic needs while now internet has become another basic need. Government has been working to make internet facilities available in every village.

Due to internet facilities the service organizations like Pathao, Uber, Sahoj are flourishing in the country. As the country has become digital so these organizations are working here with an ease. It has resulted in creating employment opportunities and the e-commerce activities are being spread. In next ten years more employment opportunities will be created, he mentioned.

He said that we are a nation of ‘taking risks’, we have taken many risks and also solved many problems. Now it is our duty to inspire the youth. They will be required not only University degrees but they are to become skilled through taking vocational trainings so that they can work efficiently in practical life.

Among others KM Morshed, director of Advocacy for social change, CEO of GP Mile Poitric Foli, Anothai Wathacorn, vice president of Dell, Asia region were present in the function. 

Later on the winners of the competition were given awards.
