Inflation rises to 5.54 percent in August

Inflation has increased slightly in August of the current financial year. Inflation on a monthly basis was 5.54 percent in August. This rate was 5.36 percent in July.

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) released the inflation update on Tuesday (September 28).

The BBS also said that the country's overall inflation in August was 5.54 percent. Of this, food inflation has been 5.16 percent. Inflation in non-food items has been 6.13 percent. Food inflation was 5.08 percent in July last year. Inflation in non-food items was 5.80 percent. In August, the overall inflation in rural areas was 5.71 percent. In July, the rate was 5.53 percent. In August, the overall inflation in urban areas was 5.22 percent. In July it was 5.06 percent.

Besides, food inflation in rural areas rose to 5.67 percent in August. Inflation in non-food items has been 5.79 percent. Food inflation in urban areas has risen to 4.02 percent this month. Inflation in non-food items has been 6.59 percent.
