The ship ‘Ore Victoria’, purchased from a Brazilian owner at a cost of Tk 100 crore, is beached from the Bay of Bengal very carefully. Speed of wind remains high during the full tide in the Bay. Beaching pilot brought the 27,000-tone ship at beach carefully on July 31 ignoring wind and tide without any incident. The beaching of sea-bound carrier and landing of plane are completely same, said PHP family director and specially trained industrial engineer Muhammad Anwarul Haque.
In response to a question on why and for what a documentary has been made from one minute and 52 seconds video of beaching the ship, PHP family director Zahirul Islam Rinku said, “Bangladesh is a leading selling and buying country of old ship-breaking and there are a lot of negative propaganda about our country in international arena.”
He added: “When we discuss about our ship-breaking yard, the foreigners claim that our yard documentary is super composed or copy and pictures are made with Photoshop. We made documentary of around two-minute at a cost of Tk 200,000 so that we can give proper answer to the foreigners. We are not lagging behind and we can.”
The mega ship made in Japan before 29 years was used to carry mineral iron in different countries. According to Hong Kong Convention, the 15,000 square feet shipyard of PHP was recognized as first ever green shipyard of the country. The shipyard has been modernized by installing modern equipments with latest technology at a cost of Tk 35 crore. The shipyard ensured environment protection, health protection of its workers and avoiding accident. Mentionable, the owners of the green shipyard get different facilities, including purchasing ship from international markets at comparatively low cost.
In this regard, experts think that others shipyards of the country will face difficulties since the PHP green shipyard will start cutting old ship one by one.
