Sector Commander Lt.Col(Rtd) Abu Osman Chowdhury passes away

Sector Commander of the Liberation War Lt. Col(Rtd) Abu Osman Chowdhury, who was infected with coronavirus, passed away. He was 85 years old at the time of his death.

He died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital around 8am on Saturday (September 5). His personal assistant Abul Bashar confirmed the death of the valiant freedom fighter.

According to his family sources, this valiant freedom fighter had been suffering from various physical ailments for a long time. He was admitted to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital on August 30 at noon due to his deteriorating condition. At the end of the test, coronavirus was detected in his body.

It may be mentioned that Abu Osman Chowdhury was born on 1 January 1936 in the Chowdhury family of Madanergaon village of Faridganj police station in Chandpur district.

During the war of liberation he was serving in earstwhile EPR stationed at Meherpur with the rank of Major.

During Liberation War the exile Bangladesh government appointed him as the Regional Commander for the South-West.
In the last half of May 1971, Chief of Army Staff MAG Osmani divided the South-West Battlefield into two and formed Sectors 8 and 9, and Abu Osman Chowdhury was appointed in charge of Sector 8.

His namaz -e- zanaja will be held at Cantonment central mosque after Asr prayer and will be buried at Banani army graveyard.
