Relations between Bangladesh and India is very warm, but some of the negative elements like killings on the border are most irritating, said foreign minister AK Abdul Momen.

The foreign minister made the remarks at a press conference after the virtual meeting between Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (December 17).

Regarding the border killings, Abdul Momen said, "We, Bangladeshis, we are also disappointed. However, we believe that it can be resolved through negotiations. We have come a long way. We want to trust them. We don't want a single person to die at the border. But sadly such incidents are happening from time to time despite such cordial relationship between the two countries. But it creates a stigma about them. '

"Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said he will re-issue instructions not to use lethal weapons to stop border killings," he said. In addition, we have proposed a 'comprehensive border management plan' between the two countries to stop border killings. India has accepted the offer and will work on a new one soon. '

"The Prime Minister of India himself has said that non-lethal weapons will be used," the minister said.

Asked about allegations of bribery by the BSF, he said, "It is an issue for journalists. We have heard that BSF takes bribes through newspapers and persuades this business. But journalists should write more on this issue. '

AK Abdul Momen said, "Our Prime Minister has expressed satisfaction over the relations between the two countries." And Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described the relationship as a golden chapter.

It may be mentioned that during the one-hour and 15-minute meeting, various issues of mutual interest were discussed.
