Dhaka: Bangladesh Bank has instructed to avoid any kind of writing, sealing and stapling on new and reusable banknotes. A circular in this regard has been issued by the Currency Management Department of Bangladesh Bank on Tuesday.

According to the circular, after branding the packets after confirming the number of notes in each packet, there is a provision to affix the name / seal of the concerned bank branch, signature of the note counter and label / flyleaf with date. But recently it has been noticed that in violation of this directive of Bangladesh Bank, numbers and dates are being written directly on the money, branch seals, signatures and sub-signatures are being provided, stapling etc. is being done. As a result, the notes become obsolete in a relatively short period of time and consumers are also suffering. Above all, state money is being wasted.

Bangladesh Bank said that writing on notes, stamping and stapling on banknotes is one of the obstacles in implementing Bangladesh Bank's clean note policy, which is not at all desirable. Therefore refrain from writing, signing, sealing and stapling of notes (excluding Tk. 1000 notes) during the counting process and after confirming the number of notes in the packet, packet branding, name of the concerned bank branch, seal, signature of the enumerator and date label have been re-instructed to ensure strict compliance with the implantation and to follow all the rules and regulations of Bangladesh Bank in case of submission of currency notes or banknotes to Bangladesh Bank.
